Thursday 2nd February saw our Year 5 & 6 Handball team take part in the Oldham Cluster Competition at Hathershaw School taking on 3 other schools.
The team were anxious before the opening game, as for a couple of the team members, it was their first time representing Werneth.
Werneth got off to a favourable start with a goal in the first match. However, the other team scored an equaliser soon after and we eventually lost the game 2 – 1.
The next match was a tough one against St Hugh’s, who throughout the competition were outstanding and would become the overall winners on the night. Despite this it was a close run game, losing only 3 – 2.
In our final match of the night, we played with great determination and gusto, however we could not find a win to reward this.
When Mr. Mitchell asked the team what they felt had changed following the first match, the players said they had learnt to collaborate and co-operate as team mates more fluently and became more aware of each other’s positions and roles within the team.
This experience was a lesson well learnt and a created a strong foundation to be built on. Overall we had great fun.
Very well done, Werneth!
